Samhain is one of my favorite sabbats, and with the moon shifting into Pisces this year for it you can expect extra spirit activity to be going on. If you need to get in touch with your ancestors, tonight’s the perfect time. Hello, Ancestor Judith? I am really struggling to balance my Lilith and Saturnian sides this month, going forward can you help me banish this imbalance that runs through our lineage once and for all?
I dedicate this month’s GGWM to my dark feminine power. Through it I grapple with emotions which see conformity as incarceration, death. Through it I offer inspiration to make peace with the reality of Lilith within, may you learn how to best put it to use as a productive and strong pillar for society, whether in a courtroom, within your own family of origin, or in significant relationships, without threatening the construct of your identity.
I customized a lot of my clothes this month (and over time) so I took a video to showcase that, plus I have some hanging below<3
Samhain-inspired pieces
From left to right:
When I went to a Lana del Rey concert in 2019, before the show started I spotted a person walking up to the stage wearing a bomber jacket and the back of it had this rainbow colored push up font that said Lucifer, and I was dying. She was wearing patent black leggings with it, and she looked so incredible but I only saw her from the back. She proceeded to go backstage. I looked it up and found it was created by the late (double Aquarius, and it showed his whole life) Kenneth Anger from a short film he did. I created my own recently since I realized I don’t need to buy it, I can just recreate it my way. This is a fascinating article in which he discusses the making of the film - there’s a mention about the person who made the music for it sealing his fate as a result of getting caught up with Charles Manson.
For the sherpa vest I just took my posca marker and drew a cross on the back. It came out so perfect. Same with the mules, I just took my Posca marker and drew a cross on each one. I’d had these mules for so many years from Target and I was bored of the plain style. They also were not originally black but beige, I dyed them with Angelus shoe dye. The stockings were really fun to recreate - so what happened is I had a hole in the bottom of one foot and I was like I need to just cut the feet off and when I did I put them on and realized now they’re leggings! And you can do this with any stocking which is pretty cool. I always see sheer leggings being sold and they’re so unique - you can make your own though.
Goth gardener
Sometimes when I get dressed I’ll name myself - and for this I determined I looked like a goth gardener. It felt like I was going to go tend to my black flower garden. The one on the right is more to keep your hair out of your face, while the left is for people who enjoy getting dirty and don’t care, this especially is apparent by the flannel. I have seen people in their gardens getting all dirty in flannels lol it makes sense in my mind. By early fall I mean end of September and by late fall I mean October. The one pieces are both from Marshalls. The clear bag is from Hobby Lobby and the straw one H&M.
In the midst of all this character realization I did my makeup in a way that wasn’t planned but ended up matching the themes. I feel the top one is extra dirty, you are working with soil and our bodies both come from the soil and go back in so that’s why I thought of it as corpse makeup. This is such a simple look and takes a short amount of time. I dabbed the Spirit Halloween black matte lip crème on my eyes and on my lips, then outlined my lips with black and then added light foundation then mascara. I used the Sigma F24 angled kabuki brush I have and put the black eyeshadow on the end then tapped it into this super pearly highlighter I have (it’s called double gleam extra dimension skin finish from Mac) to create a more washed out look.
For the bottom look it was makeup as usual and then just added this very fall colored lip which I love, it is from Black Moon Cosmetics called Cider. For the kerchief I took some old lave fabric I had and just cut it into a triangle, then tied the ends together, it’s really so quick and easy to make this.
Lastly, here are some of my favorite movies/shows to watch during this time of year :)
