Embracing the darkness of your family
Follow your IC straight to your MC to breathe again

I received an email the other day from The Cosmic Laundry about how to use your Midheaven and Rising Signs in your birth chart to truly come into your authenticity. It was enough to send me down a deep rabbit hole of looking into my Midheaven and Imum Coeli since I already know a lot about my Rising Sign, and the below is all I discovered. This may sound like a different language to you and trust it is, but follow me and you’ll be great.
You’ll first want to first go here, and after typing your credentials you will generate your birth chart. Look to the right under Houses and you’ll find your IC (Imum Coeli, latin for bottom of the heavens=the lowest point in the sky at your birth time) and MC (Midheaven=the highest point in the sky at your birth time) with zodiac signs next to them. For example, in the birth chart below the IC is in Aquarius while the MC is in Leo. If you look at the circular chart, you can see the bold black line which emphasizes MC just before 12 o’ clock at the very top of the circle and the bold line which emphasizes IC just before 6 o’ clock at the very bottom of the circle.
Starting from the root, or the depths from which you emerged, the sign of the IC is the deepest part of you, telling an entire story about your childhood, how you were raised, what was expected of you, etc. It is like the unconscious heaviness that surrounds you, one most people try to run from their whole lives. The sign of the IC can describe things you believed in from growing up, things you’re not even aware of. Ultimately, it represents what needs deconditioning in order to move forward as an individual. It is this individuation that will help you metaphorically climb the sacred ladder to your Midheaven, where you actually belong. The Midheaven sign represents your legacy or how you want to be seen and remembered after you die.
You’ll notice your IC/MC combination are opposite signs, meaning they are directly six months across from each other, on the wheel of time. Because of this they really play off one another and that can help you understand all of this even more. Personally, I have a Sagittarius IC and Gemini MC. I learned that the darker side of Sagittarius is always needing to have a goal/aim, so constantly keeping busy and always being on the go is important to them (this really rings true for me). They also run on fumes, as fire is the element that represents Sagittarius, meaning they run mostly on emotions. Growing up this way in a Sagittarius environment made for a very highly charged energy all around me, one that was fiery, volatile and strict. As a result my emotions ran my life in a multitude of ways. I was never taught to slow down or that it was even necessary. Gemini on the other hand looks for knowledge for the fun of it, without a goal or aim, juggles life playfully, and has a cool-headed persona running on air (the element that represents it) or the way they think. So to break free from how I grew up, it would benefit me to move up toward my Gemini MC, through therapy and integration, by approaching life in a more detached manner (Gemini trait), this would relieve those intense Sag emotions and impulses. Gemini is also flighty - always changing and so comfortable with it - unlike Sag who is constantly focused on accomplishment, becoming “fired up about a vision with an almost religious fervor.” There is nothing wrong with having visions but the amount of overfunctioning and hustle culturing Sag does can’t sustain anyone. These were major discoveries for me because this all made sense and applied to my life.
Of course it is not easy to move away from what you are used to. As I researched I imagined a wise person coming up to me to tell me that everything would change if I just did the opposite of what I’ve always done, if I could just loosen my grip. They’d look at me lovingly and say seek for the sake of seeking, while observing, studying and connecting with others instead. They’d put their hand under my chin and say you don’t have to try so hard babe. The below are resources where I found a lot of the info above and of course for you to explore these two special placements more in the neverending journey to free yourself/gain insight into what will make you happiest.
